Hi there,

I injured my elbow a few weeks back and it's now not hurting too much, slight pain when extending it fully or a rapid movement but other than that pretty good again. However it is stiff a lot, particularly in the morning and I feel like its lost some strength. Does anyone have any good gentle exercises I can do to loosen it up and start to build the strenght back up? For example a bicep curl hurts a little at the top of the curl where I guess the ligaments/tendons/muscles are not as loose as before the injury.

Thanks!

I went to a physio recently as i tore an adducter muscle and he recommend stretching regularly the injured muscle until it's better. Not sure if it's the same for ligaments though. If it is muscle he said it's importnat even if it hurts to keep stretching it to stop the muscle shortening and having a weak spot. he also gave me specific strengthening exercises as well to build it's stength back up.

Thanks @gymnag_Rob. Did the physio give you an idea of how long your recovery is going to take? Think I might have to go see a physio about the elbow then as don't want it getting weaker.

I'd left it a couple of months so it wasn't too bad so he reckons only a few more weeks with strength and stretching exercises to rehabilitate it. I was concerned as although it was getting better it seemed to have a week spot under tension in a certain place that just didn't seem to improve. That's when i found out that i should have been stretching it all along, whereas i'd been avoiding the area that hurt thinking that was the right thing to do. He reckons i should be alright though soon and it should be 99% ok.
I'd recommend just speaking to a physio though so you at least know your doing the right thing especially if it's taking a long time to heal.
