Do you any of you suffer from the same problem as me? I know what I have to do - eat less, do more exercise etc etc. I don't buy chocolate or other snacks, and try to eat healthily. BUT, when there is a plate full of biscuits, or a big pudding sitting there staring me in the face, I just dive straight in and stuff myself The willpower and motivation just go straight out of the window and then when I get on the scales regret it. HELP! I really could do with some tips to help prevent this, especially as it's coming up to Christmas with even more tempation everywhere.
Thanks

For me i find not buying them at the supermarket is the key. I can hold it together around the supermarket (not going there on an empty stomach helps!) and have enough disipline not to buy the bad stuff. Once i'm in the house and get tempted into grazing i can't be bothered to go out and get so just eat a bit of fruit or some nuts. If on the other hand it's outside the house that temptation lies then try and avoid those places although it's difficult if it's people bringing Xmas chocolates etc into work! Maybe fill yourself up on celery or something so you feel full up and ask people not to bring/put out treats.

I find having a glass of water with your meal helps, as the water helps to fill you up a little bit more, and the dry food absorbs the water making it expand and you feel more full. Carbonated water is a good one I like (it's supposed to help you digest too although have only heard that rather than read any proof of it!), but if you don't like that then normal water is fine.
Also, if you're ever hungry, have a glass of water again to see if that helps. Another trick I try is a cup of decaff tea or coffee after your meal if you don't feel completely satisfied - it's low calorie and if you have something like a green tea or a herbal tea it's pretty much zero calorie.
As mentioned by the previous commentator, if you can't resist eating something, then fruit or veg is the best. My personal favourites are carrot sticks (you can buy them ready prepared now in supermarkets if you're feeling lazy) or seedless grapes. edited by gymnag_Paul on 13/12/2010

Maybe try having something you really like but is healthy (for me maybe strawberries) and reward yourself with a few every time temptation rears it's head.

Try making sure your always full up when you know your going intot he temptation zone. It'll be a lot easier to resist then!

I just had a binge weekend where I couldn't resist the temptation to stuff myself. Whatever I ate, I still felt hungry. Now paying the price for it though! Will probably take all week to lose what took two days to put on....

It seems the colder weather and being tired is helping to ruin my willpower....

Personally I think it's a genetically programmed thing that dates back to ancient times when your body would want to add fat to survive the cold winter period

I'd agree with Steve re the above, do seem to get the urge for stodgy food once it starts getting cold and the nights drawing in. Best to have something around the house that fills this need but is healthy. I find stuff like nuts, pieces of chicken, roasted butternut squash and eggs can take the edge of it.
