Anyone got any tips or recomendations for carb loading before an event? Should I go for high sugar carbs or not? What shoulod you do if you hit the "wall", what's a quick recovery food to get energy back quickly?

Cheers!

I'd load up on healthy foods like whole grain rice, fruit, veg, oats, sweet potato etc, before the event.
Then during the event if it's over an hour use energy drinks, high sugar foods little but often. I find carbohydrate tablets are useful if you hit the wall as well as stuff like dried fruit and banana's. Have a few dry runs and see what works for you. What really does it for me before an endurance event is to go to a carvery and have a massive roast dinner the night before.

So sugar carbs not as good as the slow release ones then? What about protein, is it good to get some in advance too?

Not unless your trying to load up in a hurry! Better to take on proper food if you've got a time as you'll give your body more nutrients, less likely to store fat and less likely to weaken your immune system by pumping a lot of sugar into it. Bit of protein could help with recovery if been training hard.
