Hi,

Does anyone have tips on shifting belly fat?

I've lost about 35 pounds over the last year and my stomach has shrunk a lot, but I've got a layer of fat around my stomach, just above the hips, that I can't shift. Doesn't matter what I do it stays. Are there any exercises I can do to target this area?

Thanks!

Try doing some high intensity interval training which will burn fat and raise your metabolism and cut out high glycaemic load foods, no sugar and alcohol. That should do the trick. There's not really much in the way of exercise to target particular areas for weight loss instead do big compound movements at a high intensity to fire up your metabolism and burn calories.

What about those sauna belts that are advertised to do this?

I've never tried them although i knew someone who did and it didn't seem to do much. Think if they did work we'd know about it. Bodybuilders don't use them or any seroius athletes that i know of so can't see them being much good. At the end of the day you got to strip off the fat and exercise and healthy eating is the only way to do this.

I think all they do is localised dehydration, but nothing more than that so as soon as you rehydrate you'll put it all back on again

I agree they won't do much. Like those ab belts that stimulate your abs with electric pulses, if only it was that easy!

Eating habit is also effective for weight loss. People having bad eating habit should improve it and should try to eat two times a day..

I find five small regular healthy meals spread throughout the day best.

Hi, I can understand avoiding fast foods but why protein rich foods? Does protein rich food cause fat to hang on your belly?

Cut out processed foods, sugary foods and foods high in saturated fats. Don't worry about good fats such as those found in oily fish and walnuts as your body needs these for metabolising fat and balancing hormones etc, just be wary of the high calorie content. Keep starchy foods to a minimum and get the majority of your carbs from vegetables, salads and fruit.
Do some short, hard, intense interval sessions that use a lot of muscles as this will raise your metabolsim and strip fat off.
I find good sources of protein are useful in maintaining muscle and help you feel full. They also slow the release of carbohydrate when combined in a meal. However spread the protein out throughout the day, as your body can only metabolise a certain amount at one time and the rest is converted to energy/ uric acid.
This is what i find works for me!

Worth bearing in mind that everyone responds differently and has different tolerances to certain foods etc so be prepared to experiment and mix things up a little.

Well I think you need to lose fat by starting exercises such as Swimming , Running and Yoga that might be helpful to reduce fat from your belly . I do not think that you need to take Sauna Belt .

I agree with @Johnson, sauna belts are a waste of time. Plenty of exercise and time is really all you can do. Make sure your not putting on weight to as it will never come off.

in my opinion it's good to have a rest day as it gives your body a chance to recover and repair. If you have the time to go for a good walk then do so as it's great low impact exercise and it's good to mix your exercises up. You could also try a bike ride?
