A good article in the Daily Express the other day about how research has shown that interval training once a week may provide the same benefits as going for a jog or the gym everyday. Read it for yourself at http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/160527/Daily-jog-no-way-to-get-fit-

I'm not convinced about this, the first comment sums it up, once a week surely can't be enough and I reckon its better to do it more often. Of the exerecise theory, I like the idea of the regular changes in routine to stop your body getting accustomed to it. A regular good cardio workout has also got to be of benefit.

I'd disagree that jogging or going to the gym everyday is a waste of time as regular exercise is good. I'd agree though that some forms of training can be more effective than others and interval training is an excellent method, however i'd say it's probaly optimistic to say that doing it once a week is enough. I'd definately recommend interval training though as part of your regular training. Check out the gymnag article on interval training for more information.

It's also important to find an activity you enjoy so that you stick it out and interval training can be added to almost any kind of workout to make it more effective. If you don't like doing anything then interval's are a great way of getting an effective workout over and done with quickly.

Another variation on the story again today: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/162833/The-secret-of-keeping-fit-Do-less-exercise.
The NHS has posted their thoughts on it too at: http://www.nhs.uk/news/2010/03March/Pages/short-workouts-better-than-long-claim.aspx which basically agrees with the comments on this thread!
